How can you tell people are feeling more confident about the economy? In short: patterns and color. Of late, men have been sticking to dark and plain, with maybe a stripe or two. But this spring, ginghams and colors are appearing underneath those traditional suits. We asked two Indochino guys to tell us what plaid shirts they’re wearing to freshen their suits for brighter times and brighter weather.
Marlon Thompson
The look, in one word
“Summer.”
Why he picked this shirt
“I’m a fan of small patterns. Something that’s not a big block or check. I don’t want the pattern to be too loud.”
How else he updates his suit for spring
“I’ll wear a lighter brown shoe rather than a darker one.”
How he wears brights
“I pick colors that contrast with my complexion. Pastel isn’t gonna work for everyone. Also, I always pair brights with something muted and neutral. I wouldn’t wear this shirt with a bright tie.”
What he likes about spring and summer clothes
“The simplicity. You don’t need to wear as many layers.”
